The main point that you need to know about herbal medicine is that it predominantly uses herbs-- and an herb is a type of plant that can be used for therapeutic properties using it’s scent or flavor to benefit certain aspects of your body. 

Herbal medicine is considered to be a type of dietary supplement, meaning that herbs can be sold as tablets, capsules, powders, teas, extracts, or even using the herbs themselves, fresh or dried, to be used to benefit your body. 

It’s important to keep in mind that although herbal medicine is natural, it may not be the healthiest method out there for you and this is because herbal medicines don’t have to go through the testing that other drugs have to. Also, some herbal medicines can interact with prescription medicines, so it’s important to keep this in mind as you explore the world of herbal remedies.

Adaptogens can be found in teas, tinctures, powder form to add in food, smoothies, or juices, and even capsules. 

When it comes to stress in your body, adaptogens can help your body physically, chemically, and biologically adjust to stress. They can help to stimulate your stress-protection response and gain that inner balance that you are looking for. This inner balance also has a different name called “homeostasis.” 

There are also many different types of adaptogens that you should be made aware about too and they each have their own benefits to them. Some of these adaptogens are:

  • Ashwagandha - prevents anxiety and can help reduce aging
  • Reishi - Enhances your immune system, reduces stress, improves your sleep, and battles fatigue
  • Rhodiola - Reduces depression, anxiety, and and fatigue
  • Cordyceps - Boosts exercise performance, has anti-aging properties, potential anti-tumor effects, could manage Type 2 diabetes, fights inflammation, and benefits heart health
  • Astragalus - Treats common cold, upper respiratory infections, diabetes, and fibromyalgia, and has potential heart benefits

Adaptogens are perfect to try out because of the many different kinds that there are and all of the added benefits to them. It’s important to do your research when it comes to them, along with making sure they’re safe to take, so talk to your doctor before you start taking them.
